A Closer Look at Beet Diversity at BOKU Botanical Garden

A display at BOKU (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna) Botanical Garden presents wild and cultivated beet varieties, highlighting their diversity and seasonal changes as part of the PRO-WILD project.

As part of the PRO-WILD project, a display of wild and cultivated beet varieties has been set up at the BOKU (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna) Botanical Garden in Vienna. Initiated in March 2025, the display highlights the phenotypic diversity of beets, showing differences in appearance between wild and domesticated types.

Each variety is accompanied by brief information on its origin, typical uses, and key traits. This provides visitors with insights into the diversity and value of both cultivated and wild beets.

The beets will remain in place throughout the year, allowing seasonal changes in appearance to be observed. A short overview of the PRO-WILD project is also included to inform visitors about its goals and activities.
